Scripture: Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.
2 And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think;
Sometimes we have dry spells. I remember when DEb and I moved to Adamsville they hadn't had in rain in a long time and things were really dry. The house we moved into didn't have any grass at all and no hope of ever having any because the ground was so dry. That was two years ago, but now it is very different there is plenty of grass because we have had plenty of rainfall this year. It may be a little too wet in some areas--well nothing is perfect right? But what we seek is balance, well that is what I need anyway.
I have people come up to me after the sermon is over and make all kinds of comments about it. Some complain that I don't have enough "hellfire and damnation"==They say preacher I need you to step on my toes a little. Others recognize the grace, the forgiveness, the opportunity to have a new beginning, the opportunity to become a witness and a disciple in way they had never thought of before that day. My reply is always that I have to go where the H S leads me.
I can almost always distinguish between those who feed on God's word regularly and those who don't. The ones who have a strong relationship with God are the ones who are never hungry, but they are able to see with new eyes. The ones who are hungry try to gorge themselves on Sunday morning to get enough in one hour or so to last until the next time it is offered. Their spiritual stomachs are bloated from starvation because they do not have a regular diet.
In dry spells we have to do what we can to keep things alive and growing. The reason we had no grass at the new house was because no one was taking care of feeding and watering it, not necessarily the dry weather. When we are spiritually hungry we need to be fed and that food is available 24/7, but one must go after it and eat. When we are on a regular diet of spiritual food our spiritual bodies thrive and our minds are renewed and we can have that pleasing relationship with God and our neighbor.
The food is there for the taking and there is plenty of it, so get on a regular diet and you will never be hungry. You will eat because it is what sustains you and keeps you balanced.
